ERica A. Fishel, Ph.D., J.D.
Dr. Erica A. Fishel advises clients on a range of intellectual property matters, including licensing agreements, patent prosecution, developing intellectual property portfolio strategies, crafting patent claim strategies, and preparing patent applications. Her work frequently involves technologies related to viral delivery vectors, adenoviruses, immunotherapies, antibodies, drug targeting moieties, and protein purification methods.
Erica's experience includes working as a PCT Written Opinion and Search Report Contractor for the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). In this capacity, she performed patent and literature searches for Patent Cooperation Treaty applications, prepared written opinions analyzing patentability, and classified applications. She also contributed to the USPTO's Patents for Humanity award selection process, evaluating nominations in the Food & Nutrition and Clean Technology categories.
She has a strong background in technology transfer, having served as the Director of Technology Transfer at both the Boyce Thompson Institute at Cornell University and the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center. At the Boyce Thompson Institute, she assessed invention disclosures and developed intellectual property protection strategies. She also facilitated collaborations and licensing agreements for the Institute's intellectual property portfolio. At the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, she acted as a liaison between researchers and corporate partners to secure sponsored research agreements and pursue licensing opportunities. She provided guidance to research teams on intellectual property and agreement strategies throughout the research and development lifecycle.
Erica's early career included experience as a biochemist at Sigma-Aldrich (now MilliporeSigma), where she worked in large-scale production, performing assays and supporting the production of chemical compounds for research and development use in academic and industrial settings.
